0 to 1: The Vital Importance of Taking the First Step

There are many obstacles in achieving major life goals, but one is a bigger threat than all the rest: starting.

As the saying goes, fear kills more dreams than failure ever will.  In other words, the biggest risk to succeeding is hesitation or doubt.

Therefore, taking the leap to begin a project or goal is more important than any challenge that comes later. We call this concept going from 0 to 1.

A goal you have not started is 0: it is nothing, an idea that you have not yet brought into reality. This idea may be scary, full of unknowns.

When you take the first step, any step, no matter how small, you move from 0 to 1. You begin the process of realizing your goal.

There will of course be many steps, obstacles, and things to learn after you reach 1. But none is as dangerous to your success as not starting.

A fire you have not lit cannot build. No matter how much you prepare, it cannot grow hotter or brighter until after you go from 0 to 1 and light it.

An adventure on which you have not yet embarked is intimidating. There is much you don't know yet, and what if you're not ready?

The only way to address these concerns, to start learning and growing through experience, is to take that first step. To go from 0 to 1.

There is no such thing as perfectly ready, and waiting for that moment can sink a dream before it has begun.

If you have a big goal you want to achieve in life, but have not yet put it in motion. Take the first step today. Go from 0 to 1.

Start small, start messy, make mistakes, but by all means START. The path will reveal itself from there, and you will continue to learn and grow as you go.
